What Is Foot & Ankle Pain?
The foot and ankle are comprised of many complex structures of small tarsal bones, numerous ligaments and tiny muscles that help support the entire weight of the body. Foot pain can be caused by several different acute or chronic injuries as well as repetitive stress and activity. Improper footwear can inhibit the feet from being as strong and functional as they were intended, leading to poor balance, bony deformity, neurovascular compression and weakness in the arches of the foot. Foot pain is a common condition treated at Adapt Sports Therapy with success.
An ankle sprain is a very common injury we see at Adapt Sports Therapy and occurs when the ankle unexpectedly turns, causing damage to the ligaments of the foot and ankle. The direction of the turn can affect varying ligaments, muscles and bones of the ankle and foot. Ankle sprains are commonly accompanied by swelling, bruising and pain with weight bearing or range of motion. Depending on the degree of damage, ankle sprains categorized into grades 1-3. Left untreated, ankle sprains can produce ongoing stiffness, pain and instability.
