What Is Hip Pain?

Hip pain is a common condition that can occur due to a variety of causes, such as overuse, injury, or age-related wear and tear. Often, it is linked to the musculoskeletal system and can involve the muscles, tendons, ligaments, or joints. Hip pain can result from both acute injuries, like falls or accidents, as well as chronic conditions, including arthritis or tendinopathy.

Prolonged sitting or poor posture can also lead to hip pain, particularly when the muscles around the hip, such as the glutes, lose strength or flexibility. This can cause the hip joint to become stiff or inflamed, leading to discomfort or pain. In some cases, compensating for pain in one hip can strain the other hip, exacerbating the issue.

Hip pain can affect a person’s daily life, restricting mobility and preventing participation in activities like walking, running, or cycling. For those who are active in sports, such as golf or tennis, hip pain can limit performance and even prevent participation. Whether caused by an injury or a chronic condition, hip pain can impact overall quality of life, making it important to seek proper treatment.

What Are The Symptoms Of Hip Pain?

Hip pain can manifest in several ways, and the symptoms can vary depending on the underlying cause. Common symptoms include a sharp or dull pain in the hip area, especially when moving or putting weight on the affected leg. Pain may worsen with activities such as climbing stairs, walking, or standing up from a seated position. In some cases, the pain is more pronounced at night or when lying down, especially if the bed doesn’t provide adequate support.

Other symptoms can include stiffness or limited range of motion in the hip joint. You may notice difficulty in extending your leg or bending your knee. In some cases, the pain can radiate to the groin, thigh, or buttocks, and it may also cause a sensation of weakness or instability in the hip.

Individuals with hip pain may find it difficult to engage in normal daily tasks or activities. For example, sports like tennis or golf may be challenging and simple tasks like gardening or lifting objects may exacerbate the discomfort. If left untreated, hip pain can interfere with mobility and overall function, so seeking timely treatment is essential.

What Is Our Approach To Fixing/Treating Hip Pain?

At Castrell Neuromuscular Therapy, we take a comprehensive and personalized approach to treating hip pain. The treatment process begins with a thorough evaluation to understand the cause of your pain. We start by sitting down with you to discuss the history of your injury, any activities that may have triggered the pain, and how it’s affecting your daily life. We also consider any previous injuries to the knees or ankles, as these can influence the hip joint.

Once we gather the necessary information, we may not need to immediately check range of motion. Instead, we focus on understanding how the trauma, movement patterns, or compensations might be contributing to the issue. This helps us get to the root cause of the pain, rather than just addressing the symptoms.

Our treatment approach includes using various techniques such as deep tissue work, soft tissue mobilization, and stretching to improve flexibility and restore proper function to the hip. We may also use tools such as scrapers and shockwave therapy to reduce inflammation and promote healing in the affected area.

Additionally, we address the whole body by looking at the spine and other joints that may be influencing the hip. Often, compensating for pain in one hip can put excessive strain on the other, causing a cascade of issues. By treating the underlying causes, we can help prevent further damage to the hip and ensure long-term relief.

Our goal is to provide effective treatment that addresses not only the hip pain but also the factors contributing to it. We focus on long-term solutions that restore mobility, improve strength, and ultimately help you return to the activities you love.
