Neuromuscular massage therapists go beyond relaxation massage therapies. They are experts in injury assessment, injury treatment, corrective exercise suggestions, injury prevention, rehabilitation, and many other areas of sport, health, and fitness. We are bodywork professionals!
Be prepared to provide your previous medical or surgical history. If you have any prior X-Ray/MRI reports and a list of medications, please bring copies of them or email them ahead of time.
Treating your feet would require access to your calves, so loose-fitting pants are appropriate. If we treat your spine, you will be more comfortable wearing shorts, a t-shirt, or a sports bra if proper. Jeans and sweaters are highly discouraged during any session.
Treatment duration depends on any diagnosis, the severity of your impairments, past medical history, and other factors. After a thorough assessment, the therapist will develop a treatment plan for the rehabilitation process with you. We will regularly assess your progress.
No, neuromuscular massage therapists can assess and treat without referral by a doctor. However, most health insurers require a doctor’s referral before authorizing the coverage of fees; some only require a phone call. Other insurers require additional assurance from your doctor that the services are essential to your recovery.
Please call your health insurance provider to determine if outpatient manual therapy services or bodywork are covered under your plan when provided by a massage therapist. Each program is different. Further, even if your plan allows manual therapy, your insurer may require a Doctor’s Referral, the form for which can be downloaded here which would give assurance from your doctor that this service is “essential.”
All new clients must have an initial evaluation, which includes the assessment and bodywork combined within the appointment. Initial evaluations in neuromuscular massage therapy are vital for assessing clients’ conditions, identifying pain and dysfunction, and developing a personalized treatment plan. This process, including a thorough intake, is essential for effective therapy, addressing specific needs, and building trust between the client and therapist, ensuring a successful session.
Generally, we prefer for our clients to wait seven days after receiving a botox injection and six weeks after receiving a cortisone injection in the treatment area. Speak with your doctor for more clarification based on your unique circumstances.
You can choose from three therapists: Luis Silva CMT, Heidi Donnelly CMT, Croft Castrell CMT. All our therapists are advanced neuromuscular massage therapists, except Luis, a master myoskeletal therapist and Iannick a chiropractor.
