Meet Our Owner: Matt Gibbons

Matt Gibbons is an expert physical therapist and owner of FYZICAL Therapy & Balance Centers in Waukesha. He was raised on a small farm in southwest Wisconsin where his family raised beef cattle. Growing up on the farm instilled in him a strong work ethic. A fun fact about his early life is that he showed cattle and became a two-time grand champion and one-time champion at the Richland County Fair – an accomplishment not many can boast about.

Matt attended the University of Wisconsin, where he earned a degree in engineering. Afterward, he served as a Marine officer for four years before transitioning into a career in manufacturing. His journey toward physical therapy was unconventional, as healthcare was far from his mind during his youth. Matt’s mother, a registered nurse and later the director of nursing at a local nursing home had a career that initially did not appeal to him.

However, after experiencing a back injury that led to a ruptured disc, Matt underwent physical therapy. This experience opened his eyes to the value of physical therapy and the impact it could have on people’s lives. He found himself drawn to the field, appreciating how physical therapists help others and how different it was from the manufacturing sector, which he had not found fulfilling.

Matt spent his entire career in private practice. Although he initially aspired to own his own clinic, the challenges of dealing with Medicare, Medicaid, and insurance issues he observed in his first job discouraged him from pursuing that goal. He resigned himself to being a therapist rather than a clinic owner.
