What Is Arthritis?

Arthritis is a condition that affects the joints, leading to inflammation, stiffness, and pain. It can occur in various areas of the body, including the spine, hips, knees, neck, and ankles. Many people experience arthritis as a natural part of aging, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you have to stop living an active life. In fact, with the right treatment and therapy, it’s possible to manage and alleviate the symptoms effectively. Arthritis is often caused by the abnormal pull on the joint, which can result from an imbalance in the musculoskeletal system. If this imbalance is addressed, the pain can be significantly reduced, and joint function can be restored.

What are the symptoms of Arthritis?

The symptoms of arthritis vary depending on the type of arthritis and the joint it affects, but they generally involve pain, inflammation, and limited movement. Some common symptoms include:

  • Pain: The primary symptom of arthritis is pain in the affected joint. This pain can range from mild to severe and may worsen with certain activities, particularly after long periods of rest or intense physical movement.
  • Swelling: Many people with arthritis notice swelling around the joint, making it feel stiff and difficult to move. This inflammation can cause discomfort and may be accompanied by warmth in the affected area.
  • Stiffness: A common sign of arthritis, stiffness usually occurs after waking up or after prolonged periods of sitting or resting. This can make everyday tasks such as bending, walking, or standing challenging.
  • Reduced Range of Motion: As arthritis progresses, you may notice that the joint becomes more difficult to move, leading to a loss of function. This can make even simple movements like reaching, grasping, or climbing stairs painful and difficult.
  • Fatigue: People with arthritis may also experience tiredness or fatigue, which is often a result of the body’s natural inflammatory response. This feeling of exhaustion can further limit mobility and increase the discomfort associated with the condition.

While some individuals try traditional approaches such as heat therapy, rest, or stretching exercises to manage arthritis symptoms, these methods can sometimes lead to sedentary habits. When the condition is left untreated or only partially treated, it can become more difficult to stay active and maintain an optimal level of mobility.

What Is Our Approach To Treating Arthritis?

At Park Rehab, we believe in taking a comprehensive approach to treating arthritis. Rather than simply masking the symptoms with temporary solutions, we focus on restoring joint mobility, relieving pain, and addressing the underlying causes of arthritis. Movement is essential to maintaining joint health, and we work with you to develop a tailored treatment plan designed to get you back to doing the things you love.

Our approach includes a combination of advanced therapies, such as:

  • Shockwave Therapy: This technique uses acoustic waves to stimulate tissue healing, reduce inflammation, and alleviate pain. Shockwave therapy is particularly effective in reducing discomfort in joints affected by arthritis and promoting the body’s natural repair process.
  • Cold Laser Therapy: A non-invasive treatment, cold laser therapy helps to promote circulation, reduce inflammation, and speed up the healing process by targeting damaged tissues at the cellular level.
  • Joint Mobilization: Through gentle, hands-on techniques, joint mobilization helps restore movement and function in stiff, arthritic joints. This technique is designed to improve the range of motion and reduce pain in the affected joint.
  • Myofascial Release: A technique used to release tightness and tension in the connective tissue, myofascial release helps reduce discomfort, improve flexibility, and restore mobility. It’s a valuable tool in treating the musculoskeletal imbalances that can contribute to arthritis.
  • Acupuncture & Trigger Point Dry Needling: In certain cases, we utilize acupuncture and trigger point dry needling to target specific areas of discomfort. These therapies help reduce muscle tension and pain, promoting overall relaxation and joint mobility. In combination with electric stimulation, these treatments can have a powerful effect on reducing arthritis pain and improving joint function.

By restoring joint mobility, reducing muscle tension, and improving circulation, these treatments work together to provide lasting relief from arthritis symptoms. Movement is at the heart of our treatment philosophy, and we believe that keeping your joints moving is essential to maintaining their health and preventing further damage.
